Written by Ben Cox – The Brownwood Public Library is having a Library Card Drive to promote reading, and get people into the library that haven’t been there before.

Becky Isbell, director of the Library, says “we have 1,000 cards featuring Disney’s The Incredibles.” Disney partnered with the American Library Association and provided the artwork for the cards as part of a national push for Library Card registration.

Area businesses have partnered with the Library and are offering discounts and specials just for showing your library card at their place of business. Weakley Watson Sporting Goods, Prima Pasta, Rex’s Texas Lanes, and many others are included in the promotion.

To sign up for a Library Card, bring your current identification and a 2nd proof of residency (like a utility bill). Cards for minors can also be acquired when parents present their identification.

All new sign ups receive their card for free. Current card holders who would like the new Incredibles card may purchase one for $1, to cover the cost of the new card.

This month, the Library will also be hosting a genealogy seminar, live via stream. This day long event will be on October 19th, and will be shown at the main branch as well as the Genealogy Library on the square.

Originally started at the Waco Library, over 40 Texas libraries have picked up the event and will carry it simultaneously across the state.
