Brownwood News – In Texas, National Night Out (NNO) is celebrated on the first Tuesday in October. In Brownwood, NNO is a unique opportunity for neighbors and local law enforcement to come together and help feed hungry families.

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.

Each year, neighborhoods across Brown County host more than 40 neighborhood parties bringing law enforcement and community members together to visit, build relationships, and heighten crime prevention efforts.

Neighborhood party hosts and law enforcement collaborate with Good Samaritan Ministries for a “Canned Tuna Drive.” Everyone attending a neighborhood party is encouraged to bring donations of canned tuna that will be used by the Good Samaritan Ministries Food Pantry Program which provides assistance to families in need. According to Leesa Stephens, Executive Director for Good Samaritan Ministries, “We are very excited to once again be part of National Night Out. As neighbors are getting better acquainted with each other and our local law enforcement officers through their block parties, they have a great opportunity to help friends and neighbors in need in Brown County.”
