Written by Ben Cox – A local businesswoman known for her efforts to promote healthy lifestyles and well being has opened a yoga studio in the downtown area that is open to beginners and seasoned yogi’s alike.

Blue Steel Yoga and Wellness Studio is located next door to Steves Market and Deli, and is run by Debbie Morelock. Morelock, who also runs the Star fo Texas Bed and Breakfast at the Lake, has been teaching yoga for almost 20 years.

When asked why she called her studio Blue Steel, Morelock says “When steel is heating to the blue temperature, it will bend without breaking. We should be doing the same with our bodies. We bend so we don’t break is a phrase commonly used in yoga.”

The old building has been changed from what was originally a storefront many decades ago into the place of peace and relaxation it is today. “We wanted to create a space that would be relaxing and very inviting, as well as very artistic.”

Currently offering seven classes, which includes Hatha Yoga, “the overall blanket of yoga” according to Morelock, as well as Nourishing Herbal Infusions and other topics taught by the four teachers at Blue Steel.

Being flexible not only in body but in practice, Morelock will tailor some beginner poses for the clients needs, because “we’re all different, everybody is built different and we all fit different.”

With bamboo flooring and peaceful music playing, Blue Steel Yoga and Wellness Studio is a tranquil place to replenish the mind and body.

A place full of peaceful energy, Morelock wants the studio to become a place where people who are health conscious meet and gather as well as a place that fosters awareness of self. “I want people to be able to look at our own health and ask ‘why am I feeling like this’ or ‘what is creating this’ and if you can make changes before you have to go to the doctor, the better off you are!”

“We’re open to everyone, men and women come, all ages come. It’s a place people can come and learn yoga, and a little bit about themselves in a positive and uplifting manner.”
