Written by Ben Cox – A turn of the century building that once held the savings of many in the Brownwood area now holds parties for their descendants.

The Vault was opened close to a year and a half ago by James Galloway, who owns the building at 113 East Baker Street. The former home of the Coggin, Ford and Martin Bank, the word ‘BANK’ is still visible from the inlaid tile-work entryway.

A chance rental of the property lead Galloway to consider turning the room and it’s adjacent lot into a venue for receptions, reunions and other events. “After that everybody wanted to rent it, so I just got the funds together and renovated it.”

The Lounge, situated in the spot where the original vault was, holds comfortable chairs with a view of the original 1900 era wallpaper on the back wall.

The main room can comfortably hold 121 people around eight tables with room left for a dance floor. With its high ceilings and open floor plan, the space is perfect for transforming into any theme, with just a hint of nostalgia.

Galloway says “We’ve had baby showers, wedding receptions, rehearsal dinners, the Brownwood High Class of ’88 had their reunion here, whatever anybody wants to do they can do it.”

Available to rent by itself, or in concert with The Vault, The Garden sits just next to the building.

The Garden is an outdoor space which can be rented along with the Vault as well as on its own. A quiet getaway that evokes rooftop New York gardens, with its views of historic Brownwood buildings over the lush greenery, The Garden is relaxing from the moment you enter the gate on East Baker.

Galloway lives above the space, but is often away on business for his full time job, leaving property manager Sareta Delgado in charge. Those interested in renting the property can reach Delgado via the Vault’s facebook page.
