Jose Maria Mares

Funeral services for Jose Mares, age 84, of Brownwood, will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday at Coggin Avenue Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Greenleaf Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at Heartland funeral home on Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.

Mr. Mares went to be with his savior Tuesday, July 31, 2018.

Jose Maria Mares was born on November 22, 1933 in Zaragoza, Coahuila to Vicente and Alvina (Talamantez) Mares.  He was raised by his aunt Mercedes Medrano. Jose married Maria Amparo Mares on October 15, 1955 in San Carlos, Coahuila enjoying many years together until her passing in 1997.  He then married Sylvia Jane Mares on January 10, 1998 in Brownwood, Texas.  Jose dedicated his life serving the Lord as a servant of God through missionary work in Mexico, Brown County and the surrounding area.  Jose started several missions throughout Mexico as he travelled through the country sharing the bible and his salvation with all that welcomed him.  He was recognized by the State of Coahuila, Mexico for his work with the people, spreading the word of God and bringing hope to the Hispanic people.

Jose is survived by his children, Marcos Mares of Snyder, Texas, Higinio Mares of Colima, Mexico, Lidia Rogers of Moore, South Carolina, Joe Mares of Fort Worth, Texas, Andrea Carroll of Clifton, Texas, Maria Lang of Erlanger, Kentucky, John Noyola, Joe Noyola, Angela Hernandez, Jessie Noyola all of Brownwood, Texas and Carlos Noyola of Port Orchard, Washington; a brother, Jose Reyes of Fort Worth, Texas; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Maria Mares.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be sent to the Jose Maria Mares Scholarship Fund. Howard Payne University, P.O. Box 2369, Brownwood, TX 76804.
