Brownwood News – The Brownwood Independent School District spotlight article for the month features Brec Espinoza, a Dyslexia Therapist serving students at Coggin Intermediate School, and Helen Lacy, the Director of Nursing for BISD.

Brec Espinoza (pictured top left) graduated from Texas Tech University in 2001 with a bachelor’s degree in Multidisciplinary Studies and holds certifications that include Elementary Self Contained (1-8), Special Education (PK-12), Take Flight Dyslexia Intervention Therapy Program (Texas Scottish Rite Hospital) and Region XV Dyslexia Intervention Program (DIP).
Ms. Espinoza initially joined Brownwood ISD for the 2007-08 school year as a 3rd grade teacher at Northwest Elementary. She returned to the district in 2013 as a Special Inclusion Teacher again at Northwest Elementary. She has previous teaching experience in the Lubbock, Richardson, and Carrollton-Farmers Branch districts.
Nominated for her accomplishments working with students with dyslexia, Ms. Espinoza inspires excitement and positive self esteem in her students. Parents note the change in confidence in their students and how much they look forward to learning in her class each day. BISD is grateful for teachers like Brec Espinoza who continue to encourage and inspire students with dyslexia!
Helen Lacy (pictured top right) was educated at Angelo State University, and has an Associates Degree of Nursing and is licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN).
Hired in 2006, Ms. Lacy has continued to bring her medical experience as a nurse and her education in her field to Brownwood ISD.
Ms. Lacy goes above and beyond when it comes to taking care of students, nursing staff and coworkers. Known for her caring spirit, Ms. Lacy continues to utilize her skills, passion, and knowledge to take care of the students and staff at Brownwood ISD. She continues to excel at her mission to provide culturally competent care, to recognize health conditions that would interfere with the learning process, and to promote the health of the students and faculty of Brownwood ISD. The school district is thankful to have great staff members like Helen Lacy!
