Written by Ben Cox – A familiar venue with an unfamiliar name is hosting a tribute to one of the most familiar names in Country Music next month.

Marty Haggard will be performing in “A Tribute to my Dad” at Cowboys and Hippies Lodge, formerly MountainView Lodge, on August 24th at 7p.m.

Travis Saunders and his wife Ashley bought the former Mountain View Lodge last fall, and have begun a complete renovation of the building. The knotty pine and high ceilings are still there, but outdoor seating has been added, along with all new windows and other touches that now adorn the lodge. “The Mountain View Lodge has been around since the 70’s, but we bought it last November and have been remodeling the place. It’s been booked every weekend this summer with reunions and weddings.”

Not intended as a concert venue, the Saunders were surprised when they were contacted by Mr Haggard. “He looked us up on Facebook, saw the pictures and liked it, so he gave us a call and wanted to book his show there.”

It is a family friendly show, so no alcohol will be allowed in. “He doesn’t want it. It’s an intimate setting, he’s going to be singing his dad’s songs and then telling stories about growing up while his dad was writing them.”

Haggard will also perform some of his own music from his over 40 year career in country music. Tickets are $25 per person in advance and can be found online at http://www.martyhaggardtickets.com/ Prices increase to $30 at the door.
