Written by Ben Cox – Organizers for the first annual CenTex Charitable Kicking Camp are still accepting applications for the camp, which will be held this Friday at Gordon Wood Stadium.

There will be three age groups, Grades 3 to 5, 6 to 8, and High School freshmen through Seniors. Soccer players are also welcome to attend the camp.

Cost of the program is $20, with all proceeds being donated to a local charity. This years charity is the Central Texas Veterans Memorial, that was damaged during a recent wind storm.

The camp will cover the fundamentals of kicking, and is lead by Matthew McCrane. McCrane is a former Brownwood Lion, Kansas State Wildcat, and is now a member of the Arizona Cardinals NFL team.

The player who exhibits the most coachability, enthusiasm, attention to detail and willingness to help others will be awarded the Cody Cornell Award. The award comes with an Arizona Cardinals mini-helmet signed by 1st round draft pick Josh Rosen.

Cornel was also a former Brownwood Lion who passed away recently. His parents will be on hand to present the award to the camper in each session that receives it.

The camp begins at 8:30 with three 1 and a half hour long sessions, ending at 1 p.m. Each session has a group stretch, kickoff and punt instruction, field goal work, and camp awards.

Walk ups are also welcome, but there are a limited number of T-shirts available. Each camper is asked to bring a water bottle, sunscreen and wear comfortable clothing suitable for the event. If the player has their own cleats, kicking tees or holders and footballs they are also encouraged to bring them as well.
