Written by Ben Cox – Local winery Spirit of Texas Winery is hosting a fundraising event for Good Samaritan Ministries “Christmas in July” event this Sunday from 1 p.m. until 5.

Visitors to the event will be able to paint their own bowls, and have them returned to them after being glazed and fired later this year.

The cost of the event is $50 per bowl, with 100 percent of the money paid going to Good Samaritan, who are celebrating their 25th anniversary this year.

The money raised will benefit the Christmas Boxes program put on by Good Sam every year to feed those in need in Brownwood and the surrounding area. Each bowl prepared will be fired and given back to the painter in September, after other similar events later this month.

Good Samaritan will be hosting other bowl painting parties, and Spirit of Texas will host a second event on Saturday the 28th.

While there is no purchase of wine required to attend, Spirit of Texas Winery will be offering $2 off wine by the glass as well as their frozen drinks to of-age patrons. Light snacks will be provided for painters.

The winery is enjoying the success of their newest wine, Rip Roarin’ Red. Visitors to the winery will also notice the new metal sign above the entrance, recently installed by Double Diamond Metal Works.
