Brownwood News – A recent release from the Early Police Department is urging caution with fireworks this weekend, and reminding residents it is against city ordinance to discharge fireworks inside the city limits.

Brown County is currently under a burn ban, however the sale of fireworks is still permitted.

“The week of July 4th is upon us and while everyone is excited to get out and enjoy the holiday. Everyone needs to remember there are extreme fire danger conditions in the area,” Early Police Chief David Mercer said in the release. “We want to remind everyone that it is a violation of City Ordinance to discharge fireworks within the City Limits of Early with a fine up to $500. Officers will be strictly enforcing this violation for the safety of everyone.”

If enjoying fireworks outside the city limits, it is encouraged to douse used fireworks with a little bit of water on it to make sure it’s fully extinguished. Fire officials recommend a bucket of water and or sand nearby when handling fireworks. Adult supervision is appropriate at all times. Additional caution should be measured in the case of high speed winds.

“The smallest spark can create a serious situation for many people. Causing the loss of someone’s home with fireworks is a burden that no one wants to endure,” Chief Mercer said. “The EPD wants everyone to enjoy the holidays safely, we encourage everyone to attend the public fireworks shows in the County that are put on safely and professionally.”
