Written by Ben Cox – Country music star Jason Boland is coming to Brownwood to play an acoustic show at Waylon and Ray’s Place on the 20th, and will be joined on stage by other notable acts.

Boland will share time onstage with Mike McClure, Cody Canada, and Stoney LaRue, who all share a similar style of singer songwriter country. Boland has worked with the three acts many times before, originating in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Boland attributes the amount of singers and songwriters in the town to a mystical source “there must be a fountain there or something.”

Celebrating his work a gigging musician for 20 years this year, Boland credits his success to songwriting, playing original music, and working with people who are like minded. “We’ve been fortunate, playing our own stuff and the rest of it was just being in the right place at the right time.”

Boland says that the writing for his new album, Hard Times are Relative comes from everyday life, and the things they see day to day. “We write as we go, just writing about life as it happens.”

Boland says originality is key to his music, regardless of where they happen to be playing. “Just sitting around the campfire or getting into the clubs, its always been important to me to play original music. If it’s original, it’s going to be interesting.”

A simple goal is what keeps Boland going. “I just want to be part of people’s soundtrack.”

Tickets for the show are $25 a piece, and can be purchased at the club, online at outhousetickets.com, or at KOXE radio. There is a service fee for online purchase that can be avoided by buying at the club or radio station. Waylon and Rays can be reached at 325-643-1222. Show time is estimated to be 8p.m., and the club hopes for three solid hours of music.
