Ouita Bryan Johnson

Ouita Bryan Johnson passed away on Friday, June 1st in Brownwood.  She had been a resident at Redstone Park for the last three years.

A funeral service will be held Monday, June 4th at 10:00 AM at the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service from 9:00 until 10:00 AM.

Ouita was born to Ed and Elsie Bryan on Oct 20, 1926 in Minden, Louisiana.  She graduated from Minden High School then attended Louisiana Tech University in Rustin.  Ouita was married to Gurvy Shepherd, Jr. in 1946 and they had two children, Henry (Hank) and Linda.  After Gurvy passed away at the early age of 33, Ouita later married Wesley Johnson, Jr. in 1957, Ouita and Wesley made their home in Texarkana for 41 years and had one child, David Wesley Johnson.  She was a loving wife and mother and worked many years as a bookkeeper for a tire store in Texarkana.   In 1999, Ouita and Wesley moved to Brownwood where they became members of Coggin Avenue Baptist Church and found many new friends.

Ouita was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, a grandson, Bryan Johnson, and a sister, JoAnn McKinney.

She is survived by children Henry Bryan Johnson and wife Sheila of Temple, Linda Johnson Porter and husband Richard of Brownwood, and David Wesley Johnson and wife Esmer of Roswell, Georgia. Also, grandchildren, Brad Porter and wife Erica of Bangs, Stuart Porter and wife Dayna of Kyle, and Sarah Johnson of Florida, three great-grandchildren, Gage, Claire, and Mackenzie, and several nieces and cousins.
