Brownwood News – A GoFundMe account has been established to assist an Early couple after their home was lost to a fire on Sunday, May 27th. The couple’s home, along with two vehicles were completely destroyed. The house and vehicles were insured, however friends and family are hoping to raise $5,000 to assist in the interim.

The cause of Sunday’s house fire along FM 2525 is thought to have been from a riding lawnmower parked in the garage after a day of mowing, according to Fire Marshal Buddy Preston. Firefighters from all the Brown County agencies responded. It took crews more than six hours to extinguish the fire.

The blaze was originally called in as a grass fire, but when first responders arrived around 7 p.m., they soon realized it was a residence.

The Fire Marshal surmised the lawnmower may have had an issue with the batter, or perhaps could have been parked too close to flammable material, though he may not be able to pinpoint the exact cause due to the extent of the damage. The homeowner explained to the Fire Marshal he had been mowing for a good portion of the day at the property. He parked the mower inside the home’s four-car garage and took a break to get something to drink. The man was on the opposite end of the house from the garage when a passerby drove up and alerted him that the house was on fire.

The American Red Cross is assisting the couple who are currently staying in a local hotel.
