A 2012 graduate of Brownwood High School and a former Brownwood Lion, Edgar Rodriguez is back in his home town helping another generation of athletes with their fitness goals. As the owner of Alpha Spartan Nutrition, Rodriguez is seeing positive results in only six months of operation.

The store, located on the corner of Fisk and Adams, offers a wide selection of nutritional supplements and workout boosters, as well as clothing by locally produced brands like NFITMOUS.

Rodriguez says the name Alpha Spartan was a desire to represent the desire to be the best. The logo is that of an Alpha wolf wearing Spartan head gear. “I always admired the Spartans. Strength, Discipline, Bravery. Strength being one of the big things that we like to represent, not just physically but mentally. Everyone has obstacles and situations that they have to encounter.”

Rodriguez was an end user of supplements after graduating from Brownwood, and decided to transition that knowledge into the retail business. His experience trying to find a good product at a decent price locally was a large part of what inspired the store. “I always was an online shopper, I’ve gone to some of the stores in the area that sell supplements and I liked the pricing (better) online. So what I wanted to go for was having the competitive pricing, as well as bring people in and kinda share the knowledge.”

Rodriguez says he is proud of the fact that customers can buy from people who know the product. “We pride ourselves on knowing all the supplements, what ingredients come with it, what they do, how they affect your body, if there’s any cons to them.”

Ready to go meals, energy drinks, and even workout and kept diet friendly ice cream are available at Alpha spartan Nutrition. The store is open Monday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and noon to 5 on Sundays. They can be reached at (325) 800-8021 or via their website and Facebook page.
