Brownwood News – The Brownwood/Brown County Child Welfare Board announces that April is Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness month.  To increase awareness of this sad situation for children, the Board asks everyone to wear blue on each Friday in April.

On April 28th, a Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Fair will be held at Heartland Mall from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.  A variety of non-profit organizations who represent children will have booths in the mall with information and fun activities for the whole family. A poster contest is currently being conducted in all Brown Co. schools with the theme, Help Great Childhoods Happen!

Monetary prizes and other awards are presented for different age groups. Again this year an incentive has been added: $100 will be awarded to the teacher who submits the most poster entries. Posters will be collected at Box N Mail, 901 North Fisk or turned into the school offices by the deadline of April 21st.

Additionally, businesses and organizations are currently selling Raindrops for the Rainbow Room for one dollar donation each. The Rainbow Room is stocked with clothing and other necessities for foster children who are removed from dangerous situations. The money collected from the Raindrops goes toward purchasing needed items for the Rainbow Room.
