Betty Jo Siekman Fisher, 94, of Rising Star peacefully entered the Kingdom of Heaven on March 17, 2018, at the Comanche County Medical Center. She was born in Rising Star to Reuben Frederick and Katie Alyne (Joyce) Siekman on June 26, 1923.  She had a strong, vibrant personality and was a loving wife, mother, and friend.

She graduated from Rising Star High School and Howard Payne College.  She was united in marriage with Art Fisher on May 9th, 1942 and they shared nearly 56 years together before his death in 1998. She was an excellent cook and a tireless home-maker. She loved to read, sew, crochet, and play Bridge (and Chicken-foot and Train) with her friends.  She taught in elementary schools in Rising Star and DeLeon for 30 years.  She left behind a legacy of learning and love.  After her retirement, in 1985, she was very active in her Church and community.

She is fondly remembered for writing a Senior Citizens’ column that was printed in the weekly Rising Star/ Eastland County newspaper for nearly 10 years.   She will be missed by those who loved her, here on Earth, but she will be united in Heaven with cherished friends and loved ones.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Art; her brother “Bud” Siekman; her sister, Joyce Holamon; and her beloved son, Doug.

She is survived by her son Mike, and wife Jacki, of Houston; her daughter, Beverly, and husband Mike Stewart, of DeLeon; her son, Jimmy, of Rising Star; and her brother Bob Siekman, of McKinney.  Her grandchildren, and their families, are: Christie, Jason, Jake, and Codi Beyer of Stephenville;  Clay, Brittany, Sage, and Bryceton Hoskins Stewart of Stephenville; David Fisher and Jonathan Selfridge of Austin; Melody Simon,  Cecelia Hwang of Detroit, MI; Corey, Dawn, Zoe, Finn, and Tate Zindler of Tulsa, OK; and Cat, Cal, Audrey, Brooke, Logan, and Rylie Dickerson of Lebanon, NH.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, all of whom she dearly loved.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 20th, from 5 – 7 pm at Heartland Funeral Home in Early, TX.  Funeral Service will be Wednesday, March 21st, at 1:30 pm at First Baptist Church in Rising Star, TX.  Officiating will be Bro. Terry Simmons, assisted by Bro. Bill Gleason.  Interment will follow at May Cemetery in May, TX.

Online condolences may be left for the family at www.heartlandfuneralhome.net

Heartland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
