It is with great sadness that the family of Teresa Whittington announces her passing on Friday, February 16, 2018, at the age of 74. Teresa will be lovingly remembered by her devoted husband of 52 years, Leslie Max Whittington, as well as her children Cody (Jennifer) Whittington and Brandy (James) Kreisler. She was beloved of her three grandchildren, Alexander, Elizabeth, and Travis, as well as her sisters Peggy Armstrong and Nancy Chamberlain. She was predeceased by her brother Luther Martin O’Neal and her parents William Dell and Arbutus O’Neal.
Her memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at 2 p.m. at the Davis- Morris Funeral Home (800 Center Avenue in Brownwood, TX) with Pastor Dearl Hardy officiating.
Born in Ohio, Teresa Whittington made it to Texas as soon as she could. A Texican through and through, she was a graduate of Abilene High in Abilene, TX, and obtained a BA in English and an MA in History from Texas’ own Sul Ross State University. She attended the Heart of Texas Cowboy Church, and loved bluebonnets on the hills of her Texas homestead.
Teresa was an amazing teacher, a superlative mother, an adoring wife, and electrifying craftswoman.
As a teacher, Teresa touched the lives of hundreds of students, both inside the classroom and out. She was tireless in her support of all young people– teaching, giving, and fostering their minds and accomplishments at every opportunity. She was a dedicated educator until the end, working as a substitute teacher even after retirement.
As a mother, Teresa was exemplary in her patronage and advocacy. Achieving that to which most parents can only aspire, the support she provided propelled her children further than even she could envision.
As a wife, Teresa was dedicated and nurturing, never allowing her other commitments to distract from her first love and lodestar, Leslie Max Whittington.
As a craftswoman, Teresa was a powerhouse of creativity and energy. Throughout her life she had mastered an innumerable number of avocations, such as jewelry making, costume design, genealogy research, stagecraft and play directing, professional cake decorating, and world-class grandmothering.
Teresa Whittington will be missed, but she can never be forgotten.
