Brownwood News – The Brown County Commissioners met at 9 a.m. on Monday, February 12th, at the Brown County Courthouse in Brownwood to discuss items posted on the agenda, including the approval of an inmate housing contract with Coleman County.

Sheriff Vance Hill was present to speak to the commissioners regarding the contract.
“We’ve been holding inmates for Coleman county since last September,” Sheriff Hill said, explaining an informal agreement between Brown and Coleman counties to house inmates. A formal contract has been drafted detailing specifics of an agreement to house inmates at the Brown County Jail from the Coleman area as needed.
Coleman County will be responsible for medical needs of their inmates, as well as any damage to the jail caused by their inmates.
Sheriff Hill informed the commissioners of the current jail count: 142 inmates, with eight of those persons from outside the Brown County area.
Judge West moved to approve the inter-local agreement as submitted, and the motion passed unanimously.
Also listed on the agenda also included:
- Burn Ban: no action to be taken, burn ban remains in effect.
- Consideration to approve the sale of fire works during Texas Independence Day, February 25-March 2nd. Due to the burn ban in effect, commissioners opted not to allow the sale of fireworks during that time period.
- Consideration to approve a plat for Oak Hill Circle West #2: Judge West recused himself from this item, as his law firm represents the Sudderth family. The commissioners approved the proposed plat.
- Precinct 2 application to install a private line CR 489: the motion was approved.
