Brownwood News – Texan artists are converging upon the Depot Civic & Cultural Center in Brownwood, bringing their work in the hopes of being accepted into the 20th annual Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit. Artists may bring their completely dry, framed work between the hours of 5:00-6:30 p.m. on Friday, January 26th or Saturday, January 27th from 9:00 a.m. to noon.  Visit their website for rules and media accepted for consideration at this year’s Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit.

Once artists have submitted their pieces for review, it will be up to one man, this year’s juror: Randy Bacon who currently resides in Albany.

Bacon studied studio art at the University of Texas at Austin and earned his bachelor of fine arts in studio art and journalism from Southern Methodist University. Before choosing painting as his true vocation, Bacon was president of Stuart Bacon Advertising and Public Relations in Fort Worth, a full-service agency he cofounded with Jim Stuart.

During a summer fellowship in painting at the Vermont Studio Center, Bacon had the opportunity to improve his skill and develop his personal style. His decision to return to painting full-time followed. Continuing to grow as an artist, Bacon was awarded a full scholarship at Texas Christian University, where he earned his master of fine arts degree in painting.

Randy Bacon has always been attracted to the quality of light, the precise colors, and the big skies of his native state. In communicating a sense of space, Bacon often draws upon the people and venues of his life to bring about work where past, present, and future become blended, where memory and reality connect.

The exhibit itself will open to the public February 4th through 17th at the Depot Civic and Cultural Center in Brownwood.

The Salon des Refusés will open once again to artists to display their works that do not make the 2018 Stars of Texas Exhibit and will be held at the Brownwood Art Association Art Center which is located at 215 Fisk Avenue. The Salon des Refusés will also be open from February 4th through 17th.

Artists will also hold demonstrations at the Depot Center throughout the week of the exhibit.
