William Kimbler, age 93, of Brownwood, Texas passed away Monday, November 20, 2017 in Brownwood.  William “Randy” Kimbler born 1924 in Houston, TX.  At age three he relocated to Fort Worth, TX.  It was during the Great Depression that he found a liking for amateur radio and electricity.  In 1943 he was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served as an electrician.  Later he was sent to Japan as part of the occupation force.  After being discharged from the Army, he enrolled in Texas Agricultural College in Arlington and completed an Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering.  Soon after, he began working for Texas Electric, now Oncor.  He married his long-time sweetheart, Bettye Stitt, in 1947. He was transferred to Wichita Falls in 1959.  A year later, motivated by his love for the lake he built a wooden boat from a kit and named it “At Last.”  In April of 1979, he and his family survived an F4 tornado that completely destroyed their home.  Later, he retired from Texas Electric in 1987.  He moved to Tangle Wood Gardens in Brownwood in 1994.  He was an avid member of amateur radio community and a spent summer weekends with his family at Possum Kingdom Lake.  He is survived by his wife Bettye Kimbler, three sons Daniel, Michael, and Henry Kimbler, many grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
