Press Release – Andrea’s Legacy, a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to recognizing and encouraging teachers and youth mentors, presented a $1000 scholarship to Mason Samsel, a second-grade teacher at Woodland Heights Elementary.

The award was presented at the October Brownwood Independent School District Board Meeting in honor of Andrea Romero, a graduate of Brownwood High School and former elementary school teacher in the DFW Metroplex.

Samsel is a first-year teacher who graduated from Howard Payne University. She is being recognized for her work and efforts in making a meaningful contribution to her students.

The award was presented to Samsel by Norma Romero, Board Chair of Andrea’s Legacy and Andrea’s mother and Robert Romero, her father. They were joined by Raul C. Garcia, president of the organization as well as other members of the Romero and Garcia families.

Romero lost her life to cancer. The non-profit celebrates her life and work each year by recognizing a recipient with the award. The organization was formed by her family and is funded by their efforts.

In making the presentation, the family expressed appreciation for teachers and youth mentors who go above and beyond their call of duty to teach, guide, and encourage kids. They also praised teachers who make education a memorable experience in public schools.
