Brownwood News – A dedication ceremony was held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 26th, for Legacy Village, a proposed community of 16 small homes to be built to assist homeless individuals in Brownwood. The village will be built next door to the former Avenue D Baptist Church. The church, and the property were donated to Brown County Home Solutions, a local nonprofit organization established in 2013 to address homelessness in Brown County.

Brown County Home Solutions plans to partner with other local organizations to “provide the highest level of service possible,” for homeless community members. The houses will range from 475-550 square feet, with everything a person would need to call them home, including kitchens and cozy front porches. There are tentative plans to convert the former church into a community center for the neighborhood, and add a garden to the property as well.

Potential tenants will undergo criminal background checks, and registered sex offenders will not be housed in the village. Tenants of Legacy Village will be required to sign a one-year lease and pay some form of rent. Tenants will also be expected to work toward self-sufficiency and address the issues that led to their homelessness. The homes will be expected to be kept clean.

Donations can be made online at www.bcshtx.org through PayPal or mailed to: Brown County Home Solutions, PO Box 952, Brownwood, TX 76804.
