Brownwood News – The local Salvation Army is currently collecting supplies for victims of Hurricane Harvey that have temporarily relocated to the Brownwood area.

Over 70 evacuees are staying at the Lake Brownwood State Park, at no cost to them, while they begin to rebuild their lives after the devastating flooding and hurricane damage sustained by the Texas coastal region. But before evacuees had even arrived, the Salvation Army was already well on its way to providing aid both locally and at the affected areas further south.

“Salvation Army Disaster aid was already prepared. Trucks were sent out before the hurricane impacted South Texas,” says Stacy Kinkead Tennison, director of the local Salvation Army. “Everything Salvation Army disaster vehicle in the state of Texas is there helping, including the Salvation Army mobile food truck from Brownwood. We have three teams from Brownwood there and more lined up.”

As local volunteers have traveled to the coast to help in recovery efforts, there is still a need for donations to assist evacuees here in the Brownwood area.

“We need pull-ups, wipes, water, food, laundry soap, hygienist items, paper goods, and snacks,” Tennison explained. “We are also working with other agencies to make sure these clients are taken care of.”

Anyone wishing to donate can do so at the following locations:

  • Salvation Army: 403 Lakeway from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday-Friday. You can also call to make arrangements for another time: 325.646.5369
  • Premier High School of Brownwood/Early: 819 Early Boulevard in Early
  • Just Teasin’ Salon: 302 West Commerce in Brownwood
