Written by Rowonna McNeely – Last week, we stopped by Kiera’s school on our way to get her registered for the new school year. As we pulled into the parking lot, Kiera asked, “Can I go in with you, Mom?”
“That’s fine, baby.” I responded as I unbuckled my seat belt.

Kiera unbuckled and reached for the door handle as Aaron said to her, “Ok. Be on your best behavior.”
She stepped out of the truck and onto the pavement. “I know, Dad.” She replied as she closed the truck door.
As we turned away from the truck, Kiera let out a deep sigh before saying “Y’all always tell me that.”
“I know, baby. We just want to remind you.” I gently explained.
She let out another long-suffering sigh.  “Mom. I am six, going into the first grade. He thinks I am two, going into the first grade.” She stated adamantly as she waved a hand towards our truck.
I refrained from looking around to see if we had passed through a time portal. That had to be the only reason that my six-year old was suddenly talking like a 16-year old.
She took a deep breath and continued on. “I just…I just need some time alone to decide how to make him understand that I am six!”
We reached the steps to the school and Kiera turned to face me with a put upon look on her face. “I’ve had a hard day. I had to pick up a puzzle that wasn’t mine and I… I am just tired. It’s just been a hard day.”
Honestly, I couldn’t even begin to form a sentence at this point. I was torn between astonishment and laughter as I listened to her mini-rant.
I pulled the door open and suddenly my sweet six-year old was back. “Hi!” She waved at her principal and ran to give hugs. We talked for a brief moment and turned to leave.
As I pushed the door open to walk out, Kiera turned to me and said, “Now. Where was I?”
Making Mama’a head spin, baby… that’s where you were.
