Life According to Kiera: Postponed Spelling Lessons

Written by Rowonna McNeely – Last night, I was lying by Kiera as she said her prayers.

“…and help us have a good night. In Jesus Name, Amen.” She hesitated a moment and then said, “I mean, A Man.”

She rolled over on her stomach as I stared at the ceiling processing the last statement she had made.

“Umm…you mean, amen.” I corrected as I patted her back.

“No.” She responded, cuddling down under her blanket.

“It’s really amen.” I explained. “It sounds like ‘a men’ but it’s really one word.”

She picked her head up off the pillow so she could look me in the eye. “It is two words.” She stated. “A men.”

After that statement, she proceeded to lay her head back on her pillow and close her eyes. I lay there for a moment, weighing my options.

Option A: I could turn my phone on, find the word ‘amen’, show it to her and explain the definition of the word. The downside of option A is that it was already late and if I started a discussion the chances that it would continue for another 15 minutes were highly likely.

Option B: I close my mouth and tackle the spelling and definition of ‘amen’ the next day.

I chose option b. I took a deep breath, continued patting her back and said, “We will talk about it tomorrow.”

I’m going to keep it short this time. I know many of you are spending time with family and/or friends as we celebrate the 4^th of July. I’m thankful for the red, white and blue. From our family to each of you, we hope you have a safe and wonderful Independence Day!

Rowonna McNeely works with her husband, Aaron, at Willie’s T’s in the Art Department, regularly volunteers in the community, and has her hands full with her daughter, Kiera, along with two dogs and one cat.

Rowonna is a graduate of May High School (Go Tigers!) and grew up on a dairy farm. She enjoys reading, creating, swimming, and planning events. She’s also a bit of a klutz.
