Brownwood News – Tourism Director Sunni Modawell with the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce was recognized during the Brownwood City Council meeting on Tuesday for having served in her position for 10 years. Just as Modawell was completing her Convention and Visitor’s Bureau report to the council members, Chamber Director Ray Tipton approached the podium to announce Modawell’s anniversary with the chamber.

“She’s, in my opinion, one of the foremost experts in tourism in the Central Texas area,” Tipton said of Modawell, who received certification as a Destination Marketer in 2015.

Modawell frequently pursues additional training in her field, and is known for her dedication to her work. She was instrumental in convincing the Governor’s office to change Brownwood’s listing from the Panhandle-Plains Region to the Hill Country Region, a more favorable tourism designation.

“I wanted to tell you how much we appreciate the hard work that you do,” said Tipton as he presented a sculpture. “You’re making a huge impact in Brown County and you’re a friend to the council and to the chamber.”

“It’s my honor to be able to promote Brownwood,” said Modawell, as she accepted her gift.

Mayor Stephen Haynes said, “Sunni, I know that as a good salesman, you can’t sell something you don’t believe in, and I know that you believe in Brownwood.”
