Media release Bomb Threat 3M – On Thursday, 06/01/17, Sgt. Investigator Scott Bird with the BCSO and Sgt. Ranger Jason Shea identified a suspect, Gwendolyn Fay Hays, of Brownwood in the recent bomb threats at the 3M Plant in Brownwood. Attention was turned to Hays, who was then a temporary employee with 3M, after a coworker reported her cell phone missing from their locker prior to the first threat being made.

It was determined the cell phone was used to call in at least one of the bomb threats to dispatch at the Law Enforcement Center.
Bird and Shea located Hays and conducted an interview with her. Hays denied the allegations but investigators did observe signs of deception from Hays during the interview.
Investigators gathered more evidence, including a positive identification of Hays voice, reporting the bomb to authorities.
Enough probable cause exists for investigators to believe that Hays committed two counts of the offense of Terroristic Threat a 3rd degree felony. Justice of Peace Bryan Thompson issued two warrants for the arrest of Hays on 06/01/17.
Investigators have been unable to locate Hays since their initial interview. It is believed she may have fled to the Brady, Tx area where she has more relatives. Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to contact the Brown County Sheriff’s Office: 325-646-5510
It was a very rewarding experience working with the management of 3M. Their cooperation and assistance in this investigation was amazing. It is obvious to me 3M management puts the safety of employees and the community as a top priority.
With the assistance of the Brownwood Police Department, Brownwood Fire Department, and 3M staff we were able to secure and search the premises effectively and timely. I do sincerely thank each and everyone.
