William “Bill” Walker

Bill was born on October 10, 1936 in Peoria, Illinois to Jack and Dorothy Ellen (Chesser) Walker. He spent most of his adolescent years in Brownwood, TX and graduated from Brownwood High school. Bill then joined the Armed Forces where he both served in the United States Navy and the United States Army where he was in the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg and apart of the 101st Airborne. He toured in Vietnam from 1967 to 1969 and then spent part of his service in Italy and Germany. He acquired numerous medals between his Navy and Army Service as well as participated in the 101st jump to celebrate Holland’s liberation from Germany.

Bill loved doing for others, and especially veterans. He helped raise attention to the needed V.A. vans to help veterans with various transportation. He also enjoyed raising his miniature ponies and watching the birth of his little stud Buddy. Bill was a dedicated member of the American Legion 308, VFW post 3278, and the N.R.A.

He is survived by his wife; Alice H. Walker, daughters; Paula Jean Walker, Dorothy Lynn Sheider and husband Tom, and Susan K. Maynard. Four Grandchildren; Jennifer Irvine, Robert Sheider, Sara Fraley, and Samuel Sheider. Five Great-Grandchildren; Schuyler, Alexia, Marley, Ryley, and Liam.

Memorial Contributions can be made to the Paralyzed Veterans of America, 7 Millbrook Rd. Wilton, NH 03086, or St. Bonaventure Idian mission and school at Eastern Navajo Reservation P.O. Box 610 Thoreau, NM 877323-0610.

Bill walker will have a service with military honors on Monday June 5, 2017 at Jacksonville National Cemetery in Jacksonville, FL.

Bill Walker age 80, from Brownwood, TX passed away May 28, 2017 at a local nursing home.
