Brownwood News – Both the Brownwood and Early Chambers of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the opening of the Lehnis Railroad Museum’s new permanent exhibit, “Working on the Railroad” on Tuesday, May 23rd, at 10:30 a.m. at the museum.

The exhibit occupies the large foyer of the museum and creates an area that introduces the visitor to the world of railroads. Under the 40-foot high ceiling, the exhibit includes displays, a video, and a hands-on interactive components. “Working on the Railroad” will be a permanent exhibit at the museum and was made possible by a grant from the Cen-Tex Rural Rail Transportation District, and a donation from Mr. Bob Lambert.

“We are very excited that this exhibit offers museum visitors an overview of the railroad, and sets the stage for what visitors will see in the rest of the museum,” said the museum’s Curator, Beverly Norris.  “Museum Arts, Inc. of Dallas was hired to help design and produce portions of the exhibit, and the result is beautiful.”

“Mr. Bob Lambert, and the Cen-Tex Rural Rail Transportation District have helped us create a feature at the museum that every guest can enjoy,” Norris said.

A plaque will be dedicated to Dave Olhausen, representing the Cen-Tex District, and Bob Lambert of Austin.  The Cen-Tex group was formed in 1990 by the state of Texas to preserve, protect, and promote railroads, and covers a 5-county area. Bob Lambert has been a long-time friend of the Lehnis Museum and supports its efforts to educate and entertain visitors with various facets of railroading.

Over 4,000 people visit the Railroad Museum in Brownwood each year. Located at 700 East Adams in Brownwood, it occupies almost a city block and includes outdoor exhibits and a mini-train.
