Emma Lee Norwood, age 89, passed away on Sunday, April 30th, 2017 at 2 a.m. in Montrose, Colorado after a brief illness.

The youngest of 6 children, she was born on April 1, 1928 in Robertson, Texas to O.M. and Emma T. Beck.  After graduating from high school in1946 she moved to Lubbock, Texas where she met her future husband, C.W. Norwood at Calvary Baptist Church.  They married in 1949 and celebrated 53 years of marriage until C.W. passed away in 2001. They moved to Brownwood in 1969 where they both worked for and eventually retired from General Telephone Company.

A woman of deep faith and an active member of First Baptist Church, Emma Lee’s greatest joy was serving in the church nursery where she delighted in taking care of the babies.  In addition, she served on the church’s hospitality committee preparing and serving meals for bereaved families.

Emma Lee was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her 5 siblings. She is survived by her son, Terry Norwood and his wife, Betty Lou of North Little Rock, Arkansas; son, Kim Norwood and his wife Cindy of Arrowhead Ranch, Colorado; and daughter, Brenda Sabo and her husband, Mike of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.  She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A visitation and viewing for friends and relatives will be held at Davis-Morris Funeral Home on Wednesday evening, May 3rd from 6-8 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 4th in the Davis-Morris Chapel and burial at East Lawn Cemetery.  Pastor Eddie Howard, of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Emma Lee’s nephew, will officiate the service.
