HPU Press Release – The Howard Payne University Woman’s Club awarded the 2017-2018 Yellow Rose Scholarship to sophomore Dayane Gutierrez of Haltom City. The award was announced during the annual Yellow Rose Scholarship Luncheon held recently on campus.

Gutierrez is working toward a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in management with a minor in coaching and is a member of Gamma Beta Phi, a scholastic honors organization. She plays for the HPU women’s soccer team and was awarded the American Southwest Conference All-American Team Award, granted to student athletes who earn a 3.0 or higher grade point average by the end of the academic semester in which the sport concludes.

Gutierrez is a student worker in the university’s Elliston-Cassle Wellness Center and serves as treasurer for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Through FCA, she has the opportunity to be a leader to middle school athletes during the Weekend of Champions Retreat. She also attended College Advance, a retreat through which area students come together to worship God and learn how to be godly leaders. She additionally volunteers through the Fields of Faith Ministry and at Southside Baptist Church.

The HPU Yellow Rose Scholarship is awarded annually to a female student who will begin her junior year the upcoming fall semester and has maintained at least a 3.0 grade point average since beginning her freshman year at HPU. She is to have participated in campus extracurricular activities and exhibited leadership qualities representative of the Christian values and beliefs fundamental to HPU.

“It was my honor to present the Yellow Rose Scholarship to Miss Gutierrez,” said Dr. Diana Ellis, president of the HPU Woman’s Club and the university’s first lady. “She is an outstanding student and athlete who strives to put Christ first in everything she does.”
