Written by Amanda Coers – Stephenville based photographer, Blu Dornan, won “Best Overall Image” in the fifth annual Stars of Texas Digital Photo Shootout on Saturday, January 28th. Dornan’s photo, entitled “Fly to the Light,” features birds flying near grain silos with an overhead spotlight featured.

The competition is similar to the Stars of Texas Paint-Off event in that a digital photograph is to be completed within a set period of time. Participating photographers were asked to have a “man made” light source featured in their photo.

This year’s shootout had 20 competing photographers, the highest number for the competition to date. Competitors were given three hours to produce fully edited photos ready for judging. This year’s Photo Shootout juror was Jack Maxwell.

The shootout was again sponsored by Bostick’s Auto and Truck Sales as part of the Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit. The winning photograph won a $250 cash prize and will be on display as part of the 19th annual Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit at The Depot Saturday February 5th-17th.
