A memorial service for Clois Jackson, age 63, of Brownwood, will be held at 4:00 PM, Wednesday in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with Tom Washburn officiating.

Clois Daniel Jackson was born in Gatesville, Texas October 22nd 1953 to Charles and Wilda (Whisenhunt) Jackson. He grew up in Odessa and moved to Brownwood in 1966. He joined the Army and served 3 years, 13 month of which was in Korea in the DMZ.

Upon, returning home he worked as a wielder in Glen Rose at the Nuclear Power Plant and Brady Trailers in Brady Texas.

He was a collector and had an eye for art and antiques and had an unusually large collection of paintings that hung all over his house. He loved the thrill of hunting at garage sales for unusual one of a kind things.

Clois lived in his house on Belle Plain for about 15 years. During this time, he would invite down and out people that he met at the soup kitchen or homeless people, and give them a place to the stay. He had a big heart for those struggling and many people took refuge there. He bought and collected clothing, small appliances and toys from Goodwill and yard sales. Clois would fill his yard with these items with a sign that simply said FREE.
When asked about all the stuff in the yard he explained: “This is my ministry”

Clois was a character, at the age 10 years old he came in the house smelling smoky and Mom asked him if he had been smoking. He defiantly puffed up his skinny little chest and declared,” Yes I’ve been smoking and playing cards with my friends.” This was far from the last time Mom and Clois had cigarette problems. Clois had a sense of humor and tried to make people laugh.

On Saturday the 21st Clois passed from this earth in a house fire.

He is survived by his three sons, Robert, Matthew and David Jackson of Watauga, his mother Wilda Louise Jackson, his brothers Roy Jackson and his fiancé Sunni and Mike & (Lori) Jackson. His three sons, Robert, Matthew and David Jackson of Watauga, Texas.

He is preceded in death by a brother Elmer Lee Jackson in 1977 and his father Charles Elmer Jackson almost exactly 6 months prior in July of 2016.

Condolences can be offered to the family online at heartlandfuneralhome.net
