Madie Laverne Baker

Madie Laverne Baker, 87, of Brownwood, died Monday, December 12, 2016 at CARE, Inc. Nursing Center in Early.  Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2016 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman.  Burial will be in the Burkett Cemetery.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Madie Laverne Row on April 14, 1929 in Gouldbusk, Coleman County to William David Row and Ivy Victoria Kelly Row.  She grew up in the Gouldbusk area and attended school at Gouldbusk and Mozelle.  On November 14, 1944, she married James A. Baker, Jr. in Coleman.  She worked as a file clerk for American National Insurance Company in Galveston then moved to El Paso, where she resided for 18 years.  In 1972, Madie and James moved to Brownwood.  She was a homemaker and a member of Coggin Avenue Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, James A. Baker, Jr. of Brownwood; four sons, Larry Baker and wife, Patricia, of Comanche, David Baker and wife, Penny, of Gustine, Tommy Baker and fiancée, Antoinette, of Lubbock, James A. Baker, III, and wife, Debbie of Cisco; one daughter, Betty Marie Bond and husband, Edward, of Brownwood; one brother, James Row of Midland; 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Eula Row, Lucille Howard and two brothers, William Row and Davis Row.

Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2016 at the funeral home.
