Vance Hill Brown County SheriffWritten by Rick Phelps, KOXE/KBWD News Director – During this morning’s meeting of the Brown County Commissioners, County Judge Ray West announced that Vance Hill, who won this year’s election, has officially taken over as sheriff. “Under the local code, the term of a person who has been appointed to fill a vacancy runs through the general election,” West said. “We can’t go without a sheriff and he was the winner. He has been sworn in and signed his oath.”

Hill will be taking over for George Caldwell who acted in an interim capacity since earlier in 2016. Approaching the court for the first time as sheriff, Hill asked the court to approve the acceptance of a $10,000 donation from the Stephen and Mary Birch Foundation. “We helped them out with a situation four or five years back and ever since then, they have wanted to help take care of us,” Hill said. The court unanimously approved the donation. In other business, the court:

– Approved declaring some equipment as surplus in Precinct 2

– Approved five employee changes in the sheriff’s department

– Took no action regarding the burn ban, which means there is still no burn ban in Brown County
