Helen Louise Black Ray

Helen Louise Black Ray, 71, of Cross Plains, died Thursday, November 17, 2016 at CARE, Inc. Nursing Center in Early.  Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 21, 2016 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel. A committal service will be 1:00 p.m. Monday November 21, 2016 at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Helen Louise Black on November 1, 1945 in Sudan to Douglas Black and Helen Montgomery Black.  She grew up in Littlefield and attended school there. On June 21, 1986, she married Billy Ray in Abilene.  He preceded her in death on August 14, 2014.  She moved to Cross Plains in 2009 and was a member of the Church of Christ in Cross Plains.

Survivors include two sons, Alan Ray of Indiana, Eugene McClure of Longview; six brothers and sisters, Judy Eddleman of Houston, Carole Hutchins of Abilene, Jo Ellwood of San Angelo, Jim Black of Littlefield, Sammy Black of Lubbock, Dan Black of Lubbock; six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, Louise was also preceded in death by a daughter, Dixie Ray.

In memory of Louise, memorial donations may be made to the Cross Plains Senior Citizens Center, P. O. Box 144, Cross Plains, Texas  76443.
