The public is invited to join the Brownwood Art Association for their “First Thursday Reception” to be held on November 3rd, from 5-8 p.m. at the Art Center, located at 215 Fisk Avenue in downtown Brownwood.

This month’s featured artist is Alejandro Castanon, a self-taught artist currently living in San Angelo. Castanon was born in Mexico and spent much of his youth in Spain and Germany. He later served eight years in the U.S. Air Force as a Civil Engineer and Recruiter before later moving to San Angelo.

His art has been described at “electric”, “vibrant”, and expressive. Castanon explores various themes, expanding his work beyond a single genre. His recent series of work consists of nine paintings named “The San Angelo Series” which focuses on local buildings and areas unique to the city. Seven of these were acquired by the City of San Angelo and are currently displayed in City Hall as a permanent collection.

First Thursday events include a reception and a chance for local residents to meet the featured artists and talk with Art Association members. For more information about exhibits and events, please visit the Brownwood Art Association’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/brownwoodart.
