Zombie5KLogoThe annual Zombie 5K Getaway will again be happening at Riverside Park in Brownwood on October 22, 2016 at 5:45 p.m.  A group of volunteers from 3M started the race in 2012 as a fundraiser and it has continued to grow every year.  Last year the race was able to raise and donate over $4,500 to the United Way of Brown County with the help of several sponsors.

3M is the main sponsor but other sponsors include: Aaron’s, Abilene Running Company, Ann Jones Real Estate, Bill B Que Catering, Brownwood Glass & Alignment, Bruner Auto Group, Anytime Fitness, Centex Credit Union, Citizen’s Bank, Dr. Pepper, Early Car Wash, Moore Printing, Pizza Hut and GNC.

All proceeds from the run go to the Brown County United Way.  The zombie run is a 5k fun run in which human runners are trying to “survive” the zombies chasing after them.  The race is chip timed courtesy of Race Day Event Services.

In addition to the zombie runners, there are zombie roamers in designated locations on the course, who are slower, but provide interference for the zombie runners, and may even pick up a few human lives as well.  Since there are both runners, walkers and roamers, anyone and everyone can participate.

Participation is open to males and females of all ages, and everyone can choose to be a human (runner or walker) or a zombie runner or a zombie roamer in the zombie classification. Costumes are highly encouraged to keep with the theme of the race.

Medals are given to the top three human runners in each age division for both male and female.  And for the Zombies, awards are given to the top flag collectors.

New for 2016 is the addition of individual fundraising for United Way.  Everyone that enters the race can raise money towards an individual goal to receive a prize.  The race entry fee even goes toward the goal.

To stay updated on race announcements, check out the race Facebook page, Zombie 5K Getaway, or the race website at www.zombie5Kgetaway.com.  To learn more about becoming a sponsor, volunteering for the race or participating in the race please contact Sandra Powell, Race Director by calling (325) 646-3551 ext. 13222 or email Zombie5kgetaway@gmail.com.
