September 10, 2016:  Edie Jones-Clay Sculpture
Jones will share the way she creates original works from a slab of clay. Techniques include preparing the clay for the sculpturing processes, use of materials to create textures, sculpting methods and glazes used for each individual creation in high fire, and low fire and raku processing. Jones began her work with clay during the 1970s as a student at Garden City Community College, Garden City, Kansas. She continued to enjoy visiting ceramic classes as a higher education professional while serving in Kansas, Iowa and Minnesota, as a faculty member, a college dean and as a vice president. Retiring to San Angelo in 2008, Jones has invested more time creating with clay. Her clay art has been entered into West Texas art contests including the Stribling Art Extravaganza, San Angelo, the Colorado City Art showings, the Odessa Art Association Juried Show, at the Kendall Gallery, San Angelo, and at the Stars of Texas Juried Art Show, Brownwood, Texas.  Exhibits of her clay sculptures in San Angelo have been located at The Chicken Farm Art Center, with the Women Artists of West Texas, a private showing, at the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, at the Kendall Gallery and at the San Angelo West Library. Jones is a member of the San Angelo Art Club. She continues to search for ways to improve her sculptures under the tutelage of Esteban Apodaca, Professor of Ceramics, Angelo State University. ?
