DWassonA Brownwood High School senior and athlete passed away on Sunday in a drowning incident in San Saba, Texas.   The victim has been identified as 17-year-old D’Avion Wasson.  The drowning was reported to have occurred at Mill Pond Park in San Saba.

Brownwood Independent School District offered the following information along with their condolences to Wasson’s family and friends.

On Sunday, September 4, Brownwood ISD received the tragic news that a member of the Lion family, D’Avion Wasson, passed away.

“Two weeks ago, D’Avion started his senior year at Brownwood High School excited about the academic and athletic opportunities a new year brings,” stated Brownwood ISD Superintendent, Dr. Joe Young.  “Today is a difficult day as we realize his infectious smile will be missing when we return to school. Our crisis response team, including counselors and local ministers, will be available at BHS tomorrow morning for all students and staff members who need help dealing with this tragedy. Brownwood ISD extends our sincerest condolences to his family and friends, and we appreciate all the positive thoughts and prayers in the days ahead.”

Brownwood High School Principal, Mitch Moore, also released a statement in response to the news:

“D’Avion was a senior and starting guard on the Brownwood Lion Basketball team,” stated Moore. “The BHS family is hurting along with D’Avion’s family today because we have lost a friend, classmate, and teammate. D’Avion was a competitor on the court and we will honor him by striving for excellence in all that we do as a staff and student body.”
