browncountyhealthcenterThe Brownwood/Brown County Health Department will begin giving adult flu vaccines Thursday, September 1.  Shots can be obtained on Monday-Friday from 8-11:30 a.m. and 1-4:30 p.m.

The cost of the flu vaccine is $25.00. The health department can file Medicare Part B. At this time, the health department cannot file private insurance. If a person has a supplemental health insurance policy, Medicare frequently will not pay for the flu vaccine, as the supplemental policy is expected to pay. If Medicare does not pay for the flu vaccine, the patient is responsible for paying the health department for the vaccine and filing for reimbursement from the supplemental insurance company.

The health department has not received any flu vaccine from the Texas Vaccines for Children program yet. As soon as the vaccine comes in, the health department will send out notices through the media. To qualify for the TVFC vaccine, children must have Medicaid, CHIP, be uninsured, have insurance that does not pay for vaccines or have insurance that caps vaccine coverage at a certain amount. In this case the child is eligible only for the vaccines not covered by the insurance.

For questions about flu vaccine, prices of vaccines or eligibility requirements for TVFC vaccines, please call the health department at 325-646-0554.
