The Brownwood Senior Citizens Center and local senior citizens honored law enforcement with a reception on Monday, August 29th.

The idea came a few months back, when one of the senior citizens came to Program Director Angie Dees suggesting that staff and program goers wear blue shirts on Mondays to show their support for law enforcement.  Dees called Sherry Hoover at Willie’s T’s and 175 t-shirts and 3 printings later, all of the staff and seniors had “Back the Blue” t-shirts.

“We wanted to go one step further and let our local law enforcement know that the seniors in our community are here to support and encourage them not only on Mondays but every day,” said Dees.  “So invitations were sent out to all law enforcement in Brown County, inviting them to come to a reception in their honor Monday August 29th.”

The reception was a come-and-go event with refreshments provided.  Dees stated that everyone at the Senior Center was so honored to have the new chief of police Terry Nichols attend and also Keith Gorsuch, who is the new warden at the T.R. Haves Unit.  Several officers from the Brownwood Police Department, Brown County Sheriff’s Office and T.R. Havens unit in attendance.  Those who came to the reception were able to enjoy cupcakes and punch provided equally by United Supermarket, Walmart, Kroger and Brookshire’s.

Pictured above are seniors and Brownwood Senior Citizen Center’s staff in their “Back the Blue” shirts with law enforcement officers on Monday.
