Brown County Man Faces Arson Charges

McDowellBrennan Early Police and Fire Departments received a call at approximately 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 20th regarding the report of an incident involving arson.

According to the report, the caller had witnessed an individual throw some gasoline on the ground under a travel trailer in the 1500 block of Early Blvd. and then ignite the gas on fire. The male was then reported to have fled the area.

The residents in the trailer heard the commotion outside and went outside as the suspect was leaving and discovered the fire, according to police. Because of the rain, the fire was minor and the resident in the trailer was able to put the fire out before the fire department’s arrival, the report states.

EPD Sergeant Steven Means with Early Fire investigator Seth Ringler and Brownwood Assistant Fire Marshal Johnny Bennett conducted the investigation. The resident/victim told officers and investigators that a person he only knew as “Bubba” and who used to live in the trailer park was at his trailer earlier, according to the report. The victim stated that he and “Bubba” did not get along and had problems over a female that the victim was currently living with. Today when “Bubba” came over, the victim basically ran him off after they had a disagreement which made “Bubba” angry, according to the report. The victim stated it was only a short time later that he heard the commotion outside and discovered the fire under his trailer. A witness gave officers the name Brennen McDowell who used to live in the trailer park and now lives in the county, the report states.

Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Nathan Land was requested to go by a possible location in the County where the suspect Brennon McDowell was believed to be living. According to the report, as Deputy Land was about to go to the location, he met a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle. The vehicle was stopped in the 900 block of Early Blvd. by Deputies Land and Hopson. The driver was identified as 31-year-old Jessica Perez of Bangs and the passenger was identified as 26-year-old Brennen McDowell of Brownwood (pictured above).

EPD Detective Billy Bloom arrived to begin the investigation. Positive identification from witnesses identified Brennen McDowell as the person who threw the gas under the trailer and started the fire, according to police. McDowell was then placed under arrest for arson and taken to the Brown County Jail. While officers interviewed Perez who was with McDowell, she granted consent to search the car for further evidence, the report states. While the officers were searching the car, they located a bag containing 3 bottles of THC candy as well as drug paraphernalia, according to the report. Perez was then placed under arrest for possession of controlled substance PG 2 over 4grams under 400 grams. As of Monday morning both subjects remained in the Brown County Jail, McDowell was being held in lieu of $100,000 bond and Perez on $50,000 bond.
