Texas State Comptroller Glenn Hegar released sales tax allocation numbers for August which showed a slight increase in sales tax collections in Brown County cities with the exception of Brownwood and Blanket.

Cities of Early and Bangs showed gains this month as compared to August of 2015.  Early showed the largest gains at 7.72% and Bangs was also up with a 6.75% increase in its allocation in August.  Blanket received the largest decrease at – 57.91%, along with decreases seen in Brownwood of – 5.81%.  Despite the decrease in Brownwood, Brown County cities’ year-to-date allocations continued to see positive growth with the exception of Blanket.

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar said he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts $769.3 million in local sales tax allocations for August, 1.2 percent more than in August 2015.

“The cities of San Antonio, Austin, Fort Worth, Arlington, Plano and Irving saw noticeable increases in sales tax allocations,” Hegar said. “Energy-centric cities, such as Houston and Midland, continue to see decreases in sales tax allocations.”

These allocations are based on sales made in June by businesses that report tax monthly, and sales made in April, May and June by quarterly filers.
