CoatsTroyGlynnTroy Glynn Coats, 68, of Abilene died Thursday, August 11, 2016 at University Medical Center in Lubbock.  Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 19, 2016 at Midway Cemetery, near Novice, with Rev. Daniel Stovall officiating.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, Coleman.

Troy Glynn Coats was born September 29, 1947 in Winters to Clarence Leroy Coats and Gladys Geraldine Richards Coats.  He grew up in Novice and graduated from Novice High School and attended Tarleton State University in Stephenville. Troy served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and received a Purple Heart medal, which he was proud of.  He worked as an interior decorator and worked at Waldrop’s Furniture for several years.

Troy is survived by his sister, Ellen Jo Johnson and husband, Richard, of Novice; a niece that was more like a daughter to him, Sequoyah Coats and fiancée, T.J. Bussiere, of Midland and her daughter, Sienna Shoars; Renea McMillan and husband, Brent, of Coleman; great nieces, Whitney Shorb and husband, Matt, and their son, Heston, Brittni Kaczyk and husband, Josh and their daughter, Breanna.

Besides his parents, Troy was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Lynn Coats and a great-great nephew, Stockton Shorb.

Memorials in memory of Troy may be made to the Abilene Rescue the Animals, 4620 North 1st Street, Abilene, Texas 79603.
