BrasherJamesA memorial service for James Brasher, age 77, of Brownwood, will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, July 12, 2016 in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel.

James passed away on June 9, 2016 in Brownwood Regional Medical Center.

James Truman Brasher was born December 31, 1938 in Eastland, Texas.  He attended Brownwood schools and graduated in 1956.  After graduation, he served 4 years in the U.S. Navy.  James then owned and operated a service station until he enrolled in Howard Payne University.  In 3 ½ short years, he earned his Bachelor’s degree and his Master’s degree in Education, completing the Master’s at Tarleton State University.  James had a long career working for Brownwood ISD, many of those years spent as an elementary and junior high principal.  After retiring in 1995, he went to work at the Brownwood State School teaching math for 2 years, just to stay busy.  James had an undeniable love for the lake and water skiing, trucks and hot rods, studying God’s word, and especially his family. He loved to add horsepower to any vehicle he could, and was a proud member of the Heartland Cruisers.  James was a devoted member of Coggin Avenue Baptist Church, where he served in many different capacities throughout his life, and was a deacon.

James was preceded in death by his father Albert Right Brasher, his mother Essie Anice Swinney, his wife of 45 years, Alletta Brasher, son Marty Brasher, and six sisters.

He is survived by one son and his wife, Tim and Michelle Brasher of Brownwood, and his 3 grandchildren Blake, Lilly, and Abby Brasher, his brother-in-law and wife Don and Margaret Brubaker of Early, and nephew Howard Whitney of Brownwood.

The family requests memorials be made to Coggin Avenue Baptist Church with “mission needs” noted in the memo field.

Condolences, memories and tributes can be offered to the family at heatlandfuneralhome.net.
