BrownCountyDistrictCourtLogoDistrict Attorney Micheal Murray reports that on Wednesday, June 22, 2016, the defendant David Lee Randle, AKA Sam Randle, was convicted of the felony offense of Delivery of a Controlled Substance in a Drug Free Zone and sentenced to 25 years in prison in the 35th Judicial District Court of Brown County, Texas.

A jury found the defendant guilty of the offense, and after hearing evidence of five prior felony convictions, assessed the punishment in the case.

Murray reported the First Assistant District Attorney Chris Brown presented evidence showing that the Brownwood Police Department conducted a controlled buy from the defendant at his residence located across from Cecil Holman Park.

Brownwood Police Detective Aaron Taylor testified that he learned from a confidential informant that the defendant was offering to illegally sell prescription hydrocodone.  Based on that information, Detective Taylor organized and conducted a controlled buy of the hydrocodone.  The jury was shown a video recording of the controlled buy where the defendant could be seen illegally selling prescription hydrocodone tablets to the confidential informant.

Before being asked to assess punishment for the offense, the jury was presented evidence that the defendant had five prior felony convictions, including a delivery of cocaine conviction from 1998, for which the defendant was sentenced to 60 years in prison.  Detective Taylor also told the jury about the extensive problem of illegal prescription narcotics description, and the dangers and impact of addiction to prescription narcotics.

Detective Aaron Taylor confirmed that Randle was on parole when he was arrested for the current offense, for which Randle was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
