HogueBettyBetty Jane Howard Hogue was born to a Christian family Joe and Gladys Howard in Gordon, Texas in 1931; and was reared in Dublin, Texas where she graduated from high school. She became a born again believer in Christ at the age of twelve and was baptized in the Baptist church. She attended Tarleton State University, Howard Payne University, and Texas Wesleyan University.

She met her husband C. B. (Bill) Hogue while in Howard Payne University and they were married August 31, 1949.

Betty J. shared the ministry as pastor’s wife not only in various churches in Texas and Oklahoma, but in state and national denominational ministries also. She was a prayer partner with her husband, encourager, and wise spiritual advisor. In these churches she served as Sunday School teacher, Women’s Bible Study leader, was mentor and advisor to young married women, and various other capacities needed to strengthen the churches.

While Betty J.’s husband served as a Vice-President in Baptist Home Mission Board (North American Mission Board), she served in the churches where they had membership. In her husband’s last position as Executive Director of the California Southern Convention, she served the churches where they had membership in the same manner as when he was a pastor. However her ministry expanded to become involved with the women of the convention. She directed the annual California Baptist Women’s Retreat, was a Bible leader in other retreats for the convention, also conference speaker for Women’s retreats in Texas, Oklahoma, California, and other areas of the US. She was involved with designated commissions of the Baptist World Alliance. After husband C. B. (Bill) Hogue retired from his position with California Baptist Convention, Betty J. and husband moved to Early, Texas to be near family.

Betty J. and her husband have four sons and one daughter. Her mission as mother and grandmother was to rear her children and grandchildren in the knowledge and nurture and commitment to Christ and His church. Her family was always a joy and delight. They are: Dr. Robert L. Hogue (MD) and wife Judy of Brownwood, Texas, Rev. Randy N. Hogue and wife Faye pastor in Citrus Heights near Sacramento, California, Dr. Rodney H. Hogue and wife Mary itinerant minister living in Tuscola, Texas, Rev. Ronald E. Hogue and wife Jaylyne pastor in Flower Mound, Texas. Daughter Jana Tucker lives in Reno, Nevada. To this family were added fourteen grandchildren and others through marriage and personal relationships of other family. Other survivors are Don Howard and wife of Stephenville, Texas, Eddie Howard and wife Mary of Dublin, Texas, and Mary Blackman of Dublin, Texas. She is also survived by a host of other family and friends. Betty J. was a faithful member of the Coggin Avenue Baptist Church of Brownwood, Texas.

Betty J. is preceded in death by her husband, C.B. (Bill) Hogue, her parents Joe and Gladys Howard, and brother Joe Howard of Dublin, Texas.

Betty Jane Howard Hogue will be buried in the Jordan Springs Cemetery of Brownwood, Texas on Wednesday, June 29th. Services are at Coggin Avenue Baptist Church at 1 p.m. Guests may visit with the family and friends at the Heartland Funeral Home in Early, Texas from 6-8 pm on Tuesday, June 28.

Online Condolences may be left for the family at www.heartlandfuneralhome.net.
