BadgeLogoBrown County Sheriff’s Office warns the public about the latest phone scam that has been targeting Brown County residents.  According to BCSO officials, at least four people within the county have been targeted with this scam; one has fallen victim to the scam and suffered financial loss.

Complainants have reported that the call comes from a phone number beginning 325-400.

The suspect states they are with the Sheriff’s Office, identifies themselves as a deputy, and that there is a warrant for their arrest.  They may also state that a payment over the phone will take care of the warrant and keep the person from being arrested.

The caller will give instructions to the victim to buy a pre-paid card or green dot card to take care of the warrant.  Brown County Sheriff’s Office warns that this is a scam and that the BCSO will never ask for money over the phone or by mail.

“Never give your personal account or card information over the telephone unless you know 100% who you are talking to,” warns sheriff’s officials via their Facebook page.  “They will sound legitimate and try to scare you into giving them money, but don’t let them fool you.  If you have any doubt, call our office at 325-646-5510.”

To report a scam contact your local law enforcement agency.
