comptrollerlogo2Texas State Comptroller Glenn Hegar released sales tax allocation numbers for June which showed a slight decrease in sales tax collections in Brown County cities with the exception of Bangs which showed an increase of less than 1%.

Cities of Early and Brownwood slipped slightly this month as compared to June of 2015.  Bangs received a 0.47% increase in its allocation in June with Blanket receiving the largest decrease at -36.64%, along with decreases seen in Brownwood of -4.21% and Early at -3.62%.  Although the month’s allocations did not see sizeable increases, Brownwood and Bangs year-to-date allocations continued to see positive growth.

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar said that he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts $618 million in local sales tax allocations for June, 1.8 percent less than in June 2015.

“Energy-centric cities such as Midland, Odessa and Corpus Christi continued to see decreases in sales tax allocations,” Hegar said. “Meanwhile, other areas of the state helped offset those losses as Austin, El Paso and Irving saw moderate increases in allocations.”

These allocations are based on sales made in April by businesses that report tax monthly.
